Madison Central Lions Club
Guidelines for Community Services Committee

  • These guidelines are not iron-clad, but intended to provide a logical approach to committee work

  • Committee votes should be decided by a simple majority (of members present) vote.

  • A committee quorum should be five (5) (?) members.

  • Rejections of "form letter" requests do not require notice to submitters.

  • Specific requests (non form letters) should be acknowledged with the committee's decision.

  • Refusal notices should be carefully worded with reasonable explanations.

  • Requests should be screened to see if they are community related or should be handled by Sight or other Club committees.

  • Basic human needs should have a high priority.

  • Consider projects for individuals with special needs but not for vacations or other recreational activities.

  • Services may be provided for groups or individuals.

  • Services should be limited to the city of Madison, preferably in the isthmus or downtown area.

  • In general, services should not be provided for groups conducting their own fund drive.

  • Requests with a possibility of providing the Lions Club with "good will" publicity should receive consideration.

  • Fund one larger project each fiscal year which benefits many people. This type of project may be done in conjunction with another organization.

  • Establish a long term relationship with a specific cause that the Lions Club can be associated with and receive public recognition.

  • Projects need not always involve a monetary contribution. Volunteering only is acceptable.

  • Services totalling over $200 must be approved by the Madison Central Board of Directors.

  • (Still under Board discussion) Requests from Madison Central members for "pledge funds" should be limited to matching the first $100 of their other pledges.
