Lions Eye Bank / Dispatcher Guidelines

  1. Know and use the transporter schedule online.
  2. Become familiar with the maps of the pick-up and drop-off locations.
  3. When receiving a call from the Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin or the Call Center, be clear on all information that the transporter may need.
  4. Make calls to transporters so as many different Lions as possible have a chance to transport. Suggest to transporters that they might invite a guest or other Lion to ride along with them.
  5. When calling a transporter:
    1. Identify yourself and state that you are calling for a Lions Eye Bank Transporter<.
    2. Explain the pick-up or drop-off locations and other instructions.
    3. If the transporter has a cell phone, be sure to get the number so you and the Eye Bank can contact them if needed during a transport.
    4. Ask the transporter for their estimated time of arrival.
    5. Direct them to deliver their cargo to the proper location - front desk, hospital ER, or sales counter within the building.
    6. Give the transporter your phone number.
    7. Discuss the mission: Be on time, Be considerate, and Safety First.
  6. Update the Lions Eye Bank with the transporters name and number.
  7. Notify Scott Grover at scott@abcon.com of the transporter, destination, and date so that the online log can be updated.
  8. If you are unable to fufill your dispatcher role, inform the Lions Eye Bank in advance.

Lions Eye Bank / Transporter Guidelines

  1. Be realistic with the dispatcher on your schedule for pick-up, allowing for weather, traffic, and personal schedule.
  2. Always take the transport box INSIDE the designated relay point. It is not necessary to wait until the next driver arrives.
  3. Thank the people at the relay point for what they do for the Eye Bank and Lions.
  4. If multiple boxes ar at the relay point, check to be sure you pick up the correct box or boxes by reading the label for the end point delivery. Usually the organge labeled brown boxes are coming to the Eye Bank and the greant labeled white boxes are going to a surgery center.
  5. Place the box in the rear seat away from direct heat and in an upright position.
  6. Call the Eye Bank only if there is a problem with your delivery (running late, accident, etc.). Otherwise, there is no need to call them.
  7. If possible, wear Lions clothing or cap to identify yourself as a Lion/Lioness.
  8. Remember that you represent the Eye Bank and Lions with your words and actions. Thank you for being a Transporter!
